Use the permalink option to your advantage aswell, this can be found in the options category in the wordpress admin area. For maximum SEO use this variable: %postname%. By default WordPress uses web URLs which have question marks and lots of numbers in them, however WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks and archives. This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links.

When you build your blog, make sure you edit the index template so that you have your RSS feed, and a newsletter subscription box at the top of the left hand side. This has been proven to be the most effective area for this, although if that's not an option try the top right sidebar instead.

Finally, when you have posted your articles for the day, head on over to http//www.pingoat.com and ping their list of sites. Sign up to technorati and include your blog on their site, within a day or two you should see a steady increase of web traffic.
